SYMPTOMS
When you try to install Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows on the Hewlett- Packard (HP) OmniBook 300 using the LapLink remote, the following error message appears
Tried to create an invalid path using <e:> and people.pp_
where <e:> is the remote computer.
The same error can also occur if you try to install Microsoft Word for Windows to a Bernoulli removable-media drive.
CAUSE
The HP OmniBook 300 ships with Microsoft Windows version 3.1 preinstalled on Flash read-only memory (ROM) and does not have a floppy disk drive. All installations of software must be done using the LapLink remote to a host computer.
Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows does not support set up from a shared removable media (floppy disk drive).
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem:
- Create a directory for each disk on the host machine. Name the directories Disk1, Disk2, and so forth.
- Copy the contents of each disk to the appropriate directory.
- On the OmniBook machine, start Windows File Manager and select the mapped hard disk drive of the host machine.
- Change to the directory named Disk1.
- Select the PowerPoint SETUP.EXE file and run Setup.
