NOTE: These procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Internet Mail Only option. To determine your installation type, on the Help menu, click About Microsoft Outlook. In About Microsoft Outlook, you should see "Internet Mail Only" if you have the Internet Mail Only option installed.

SYMPTOMS

When you use Microsoft Word 97 to create an envelope or label and select the name for the delivery address from your Microsoft Outlook 98 Contacts, you do not have the option to choose which address is used.

NOTE: This also occurs using the Recipient Information tab in the Letter Wizard, and the Insert Address command or button on a toolbar.

CAUSE

Word requires a fully compliant Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) address book. The Internet Mail installation option of Outlook is not a fully compliant MAPI client. NOTE: Only Microsoft Word 97 has a converter that recognizes the Outlook Address Book. Neither earlier versions of Microsoft Word, nor other word processing programs, are able to use the Outlook Contacts.

RESOLUTION

When you create your Contacts in Outlook, type the desired mailing address as the business address, using one of the following methods.

Method 1

  1. On the Go menu, click Contacts.
  2. On the File menu, point to New and click Contact.
  3. Type the person's Full Name and other pertinent data in the specified boxes, and make certain Business appears beside the Address Box before you type the desired mailing address.

NOTE: Selecting "This is the mailing address" has no effect on this issue.

  1. Click Save and Close.

Method 2

  1. On the Tools menu, click Address Book.
  2. On the File menu, click New Contact.
  3. Type the person's name and other pertinent data in the specified boxes on the Personal tab, and click the Business tab.
  4. Type the person's address in the appropriate boxes, and click OK.

Method 3

Switch to the Outlook Corporate or Workgroup option, and use the Internet E-mail service in your profile.
