The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for Windows versions 1.0, 1.1, 1.1a, and 2.0

Summary:

The M/H Group’s W-Link disk-to-disk file conversion program (not to be confused with their similarly named product, “Word-Link”) provides word processing document conversion between Wang PC documents and the following IBM PC word processing formats:

  • ASCII
  • DisplayWrite DCA
  • Microsoft Word for MS-DOS through version 5.5
  • MultiMate through version 4.0
  • OfficeWriter 6.0
  • Professional Write 2.0
  • WordPerfect 4.x, 5.0, and 5.1
  • WordStar

Note: The Word for MS-DOS format can subsequently be read by the Word for Windows file converter CONV-WRD.DLL.

More Information:

With W-Link, these IBM PC-based word processing documents can be converted to the Wang PC format used on Wang PCs, or vice versa.

The Wang PC document format is the standard floppy disk storage method for Wang Advanced or Integrated Word Processing (IWP) on the Wang PC, Wang APC, or Wang on the IBM PC.

According to the M/H Group, if IBM PCs are connected to a Wang OIS or VS system using Wang’s Local Connect Option (available from Wang), documents prepared in Microsoft Word for MS-DOS on an IBM PC can be converted to Wang PC and moved to the OIS or VS system. Similarly, OIS or VS documents can be moved to the Wang PC and converted to Microsoft Word for MS-DOS word processing format.

Note: Word for MS-DOS format can be read by Word for Windows, and documents in Word for Windows can be saved in the Word for MS-DOS format if the Word for MS-DOS filter is installed.

The WIN.INI settings for the Word for MS-DOS document conversion filter are as follows:

[Microsoft Word] CONVNUM=(number) CONV(number)=“Word for DOS” D:-WRD.DLL ^.DOC

Note: Wang PC document format is not the same as Wang 5.25-inch Archive disk format.

Microsoft has not tested this product with Word for Windows and therefore cannot guarantee proper functionality.
