SUMMARY
When using a header file in conjunction with a Print Merge in Microsoft Word for MS-DOS version 5.50, the DATA instruction within the main document needs to have the following syntax:
<>
-or-
<>
<< (left chevron) is produced by pressing CTRL+[ (left bracket) >> (right chevron) is produced by pressing CTRL+] (right bracket)
If there is a space before the name of the data document (Datafile.doc in the example above), the following error will result:
The filename is not valid. Header.doc, Datafile.doc
This problem was corrected in version 6.0 of Word.
Word 5.50 does not allow a space to appear before the name of the data document in the DATA instruction.
