SYMPTOMS
When you use the Save Workspace command (on the File menu) to save an *.mpw file, Microsoft Project may stop responding and you may receive one of the following error messages.

If you click Details, you receive the following error message:
Windows NT
CAUSE
This behavior occurs when all of the following conditions are true:
- A project that uses a resource pool is open.
- That resource pool is open read-only.
- That resource pool is the active window when you Save Workspace.
- You click Yes to the Update Resource Pool message.
RESOLUTION
To correct this problem, install Microsoft Project 98 for Windows Service Release 1 (SR-1).
To work around this problem, before trying to Save Workspace, change the active project to any project other than the resource pool, by clicking a project on the Windows menu.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
This problem was corrected in Microsoft Project 98 for Windows, Service Release 1 (SR-1).
