Session Summary
During this presentation, we will discuss the characteristics of user-defined functions (UDFs) introduced in Microsoft SQL Server 2000. This presentation will cover different types of UDFs, rules to define UDFs, as well as differences between UDFs, views, and stored procedures. We will also talk about when to use UDFs rather than views and stored procedures. Finally, we'll explain some quick methods for obtaining information about UDFs in a database.
This is a Level 200 session that was recorded May 11, 2001 and presented by Vikrant Dalwale. Vikrant Dalwale works for Microsoft as a Developer support professional in a SQL Server Database Development team. His primary responsibilities include database performance tuning and concurrency control in high-end SQL Server systems implemented around the globe. Vikrant has Master's Degree in Computer Science and his professional job experience includes working with GE Capital, Texas Instruments, and American Airlines as a Software Design Engineer.
