Windows Preinstallation Environment (also known as Windows PE or WinPE) is a lightweight version of Microsoft Windows that is traditionally used to prepare for Windows deployment and for troubleshooting. It is intended to replace DOS boot disks and can be booted using a USB drive, PXE, iPXE, CD-ROM, or hard disk.
