This longhorn build contains the slate user interface and was released (leaked) on March 1, 2004. It's requirements state it needs at least a 500 MHz Pentium 3 processor and 256 MB of RAM to function. This build contains WinFS which was supposed to be the next generation of file storage being implemented into Longhorn. The build supposedly does not have as bad as a memory leak as did its predecessor, 4051. It was stated by Chriis123NT as the "most responsive" since 4051.

Sidebar
WinFS is included with this build. Networking support has been improved from 4051, and issues with icons have been fixed.
The Sidebar contained:

*Clock
Issues
*Quick Launch
*The normal method of creating user accounts does not work in this build. However, accounts can still be created with the control userpasswords2 command.
*Classic Tray
*The History feature of Internet Explorer does not work.
*Slide Show
*The MFU list of the Windows Start menu resets itself after every reboot.
*Sync
*If a menu overlaps with the Windows Sidebar, it may remove the Sidebar gradient located under the overlapped area. To correct this, resize a Sidebar Tile over the affected area, and return it to its original size.
*If Windows Explorer or Internet Explorer stop responding, the classic title bar may be seen.
*In Outlook 2003, when you click on “Personal Folders”, it displays the HTML source of Outlook Today instead of the rendered page.

As said before it does not leak as much memory as did as before. Networking support had been fixed, icons have also been fixed and now display correctly, as well as the Internet Explorer 6.05 Download Manager. That has been fixed as well.

*In Outlook 2003, when you click on “Personal Folders”, it displays the HTML source of Outlook Today instead of the rendered page.
*If a menu overlaps the sidebar, it may remove the gradient from the sidebar around the overlapped area. To correct this, resize a tile over the area and then resize it back to its original size. This will correct the issue.
*If either Windows Explorer or Internet Explorer freeze up, you may catch a glimpse of the old style title bar from previous versions of Windows.
*Your internet connection may run slower when using Longhorn.
*Windows takes a while to boot up and shut down.
*The Most frequent apps in the start menu reset upon every reboot.
*Internet Explorer history does not work.
*You cannot add user accounts, though there is a work around yet it takes some time.

Click Start --> Run. In the run box type "control userpasswords2" (without the quotes). Check "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer." After you do that you can also add your accounts through that or do it as you would in Windows XP.

Windows "Longhorn" build 4053 (with a build tag of 4053.main.031022-1720) is a Milestone 7 build of the Microsoft Windows "Longhorn" operating system. The build is reported to have leaked on March 1, 2004.

WinFS is included with this build. Networking support has been improved from 4051, and issues with icons have been fixed.

Issues

 • The normal method of creating user accounts does not work in this build. However, accounts can still be created with the control userpasswords2 command.
 • The History feature of Internet Explorer does not work.
 • The MFU list of the Windows Start menu resets itself after every reboot.
 • If a menu overlaps with the Windows Sidebar, it may remove the Sidebar gradient located under the overlapped area. To correct this, resize a Sidebar Tile over the affected area, and return it to its original size.
