SYMPTOMS
On Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 ARMV4i-compatible devices, managed applications that use SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition 3.1 may stop unexpectedly. This problem occurs if the location of the SQL Server Compact Edition DLLs changes.
CAUSE
When the SQL Server Compact Edition DLLs are unloaded from memory, the associated window class stays registered. The next time that the DLLs are loaded into memory, the window class still points to the earlier location because the window class was not unregistered. This behavior causes the application to stop unexpectedly.
You expect the following correct behavior to occur:
- The window class is unregistered when the DLLs are unloaded.
- The window class is reregistered when the DLLs are reloaded.
RESOLUTION
A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next service pack that contains this hotfix.

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, do not unload the SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition DLLs from memory.
