Issue that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issue that was not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

  • SharePoint Portal Server 2003 intermittently stops responding


SharePoint Portal Server 2003 intermittently stops responding. When this problem occurs, you do not receive an error message. You must run the iisreset command on the server to restore the functionality of SharePoint Portal Server 2003.

This problem occurs in situations in which a deadlock condition occurs in the CComClassFactorySingleton::CreateInstance method of the Microsoft Active Template Library (ATL).
