INTRODUCTION
SharePoint Portal Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) provides the latest updates to Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003. SharePoint Portal Server 2003 SP1 contains security enhancements and stability and performance improvements. Some of the fixes that are included with SharePoint Portal Server 2003 SP1 have been previously released as separate updates. This service pack combines them in to one update.

The administrative update is made up of a full-file Microsoft Windows Installer patch file (MSP file) packaged in a self-extracting executable file. The following MSP file is distributed in this service pack:

Additional installation notes
- When you install the service pack, no user dialog box appears after the service pack is successfully installed.
- After you install the service pack, restart your server for the upgrade to complete successfully.
- The database schema is modified when the service pack is installed, therefore any backups that were taken when the server was running the original release version of SharePoint Portal Server 2003 cannot be restored to a server that has Service Pack 1 applied.
