INTRODUCTION

This article describes the Outlook 2003 issues that are fixed in the Outlook 2003 post-Service Pack 2 hotfix package that is dated November 7, 2005.

Issues that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issues.

  • 905817 The free/busy publish range reverts back to the default setting when you direct book a resource in Outlook 2003

  • 908507 Performance issues and excessive database growth occur on a server that is running Exchange Server 2003 or Exchange 2000 Server when a user adds a large attachment or a set of attachments to a message in Outlook 2003

  • 900728 A custom view that you created is not displayed in the "Custom View Organizer" dialog box in Outlook 2003

  • 904637 When you type a URL in an e-mail message in Outlook 2003, the URL is recognized as a hyperlink

  • 909109 In Outlook 2003, a user does not receive meeting updates if the user clicked the "Don't send a response" option in response to a forwarded meeting request

  • 908520 Your e-mail signature does not appear in e-mail messages that you reply to in Outlook 2003

This hotfix package fixes the following issues that were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

  • You run a program that uses the InspectorClose event to synchronize an Outlook 2003 item, such as an appointment, with the program. When you click Save and Close to save and close the item in Outlook 2003, the InspectorClose event does not run.
  • If you expand the folders in the Navigation pane and then close Outlook 2003, the folders are no longer expanded when you restart Outlook 2003.
  • You create a new calendar folder as a subfolder under the Calendar folder. Then, you switch to Calendar view. When you view the properties of the new calendar folder, the location field of the folder lists only the parent folder for the calendar.
  • If you open another user's calendar from the list of most-recently-used entries on the File menu, the word "Calendar" is added to the start of the calendar's name.
  • After you change a recurring task that has a reminder, the reminder may occur earlier than you expect.
  • When you try to forward an unsigned e-mail message as an Exchange Security encrypted message, the message is not forwarded. Additionally, you receive the following error message:

An illegal or unrecognized flag was passed in.

  • If you view a public folder in Outlook 2003 when your permissions to the folder are set to None, each item in the public folder is displayed. However, when you try to open an item, the item is blank.
  • You open a sent meeting request and then change the time of the meeting. If a meeting attendee accepts the meeting request while you are updating the meeting, you are not prompted to send the meeting update if you click the Close button in the upper-right corner of the meeting request window.

Note This problem does not occur if you click Save and Close to close the meeting request.
  • The TAB key no longer functions when you reply to or forward an e-mail message. This issue occurs if the following conditions are true:
    • You programmatically insert text into an e-mail message.
    • The Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) macro uses the HTMLBody property.
  • When you view an unread e-mail message in the Preview pane in Outlook 2003, a Body.txt file is added to the message. If you double-click the message to open it and then close the message, the message is still marked as Unread. This problem may occur if the following conditions are true:
    • The Mark messages as read in preview window option is not selected.
    • The Mark item as read when selection changes option is selected.

To locate these options, click Options on the Tools menu, and then click Reading Pane on the Other tab.

  • When you close a TAPI-compliant program when Outlook 2003 has an established connection, the connection is closed. Additionally, you receive the following error message:

The selected line or address is in use by another program or device. Your call could not be placed at this time. Try your call again later.

  • If you expand the folders in the All Mail Folders view of the Navigation pane and then close Outlook, the folders are no longer expanded when you restart Outlook.
  • After you install Microsoft Office 2003 Service Pack 1, the Search In button is available when you use the Find feature in Outlook 2003. This issue may occur when your default MAPI data file does not support the Advanced Search feature.
  • When you click Link to Outlook for an event that contains an attachment in an Events list on a Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services site, the event does not synchronize with Outlook 2003.
  • When you reply to an e-mail message that was created from a custom form in Outlook 2003, you cannot modify the message in Microsoft Office Word 2003.
  • You send a file to a mail recipient. If your e-mail profile uses a server that is running Microsoft Exchange 5.5, the e-mail message may appear to be blank. However, when the recipient opens the message, the correct message contents appear.
  • When you view the free/busy information for a meeting request in Outlook 2003, the free/busy information may not appear correctly if the meeting is scheduled continuously over a long time.
  • When you open a forwarded HTML e-mail message that contains embedded images and attachments, the embedded images and attachments are missing in Outlook 2003.
  • After you change the default Messages view in Outlook 2003, the changes are not retained when you change to a different personal folder.
  • If you forward a signed e-mail message that contains unsafe attachments as an unsigned e-mail message, the unsafe attachments are added to the message body when the recipient opens the message.
  • When you try to change the default mail delivery location by using a .prf file when you start Outlook 2003, the Deliver new e-mail to the following location option in Outlook 2003 is not changed.
  • You use a custom form that contains additional text fields in Outlook 2003. The focus in the form is lost when you perform either of the following actions:
    • You minimize and then restore the form.
    • You press ALT+TAB to switch to another program. Then, you press ALT+TAB to switch back to the custom form.
  • You save attachments from an e-mail message in Outlook 2003. You successfully save these attachments to a subfolder of a network drive that is connected to a WebDAV folder. However, you experience the following symptoms:
    • The attachments are saved to a folder that is one level higher than the subfolder that you specified.
    • The attachments are saved with an incorrect file name. That is, the name of the subfolder to which you wanted to save the attachments is prepended to the file names of the attachments.

For example, this behavior may occur if you connect to a mapped drive with a command such as net use z: http://myserver/myDAVfolder. Then, you save the message attachments to the following mapped drive:

    z:\myfolder\mysubfolder

  • When you view the free/busy information in an appointment in Outlook 2003, the free/busy information may not be correctly displayed if the appointment does not start or end on the hour. For example, this problem may occur when the appointment starts or ends on the half-hour.
