SYMPTOMS
When the Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MSDTC) proxy logs lots of TM_DOWN events in the event log, you may experience the following behavior:
- The MSDTC proxy becomes unstable.
- The MSDTC proxy does not enlist in transactions.
- An XACT_E_CONNECTION_DOWN error occurs.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs if one of the following conditions is true:
- The MSDTC service is restarting.
- Network packets are dropped or corrupted. Or, the network adaptor is bad, or you use incorrect drivers.
RESOLUTION
Service pack information

WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, reinitialize the MSDTC proxy by restarting the MSDTC service.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2.
