INTRODUCTION
This article describes the SharePoint Portal Server 2003 issue that is fixed in the SharePoint Portal Server 2003 post-Service Pack 1 hotfix package that is dated February 15, 2005.
Issue that the hotfix package fixes
This hotfix package fixes the following issue that was not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
- The Item details hyperlink is missing, and an incorrect icon is displayed next to documents that are returned in the search results
Consider the following scenario. You have a custom document library in a Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services Web site that is hosted in SharePoint Portal Server 2003. When you search the portal site for a document that is located in that custom document library, the document is returned in the search results. However, the Item details hyperlink for the document is missing, and an incorrect icon is displayed next to the document. For example, if the document is a Microsoft Word document, a list icon is displayed next to the Word document. You expect a Word icon to be displayed next to the Word document in the search results.
This issue occurs in scenarios when the Search Results Web Part incorrectly processes the document as a list item in the search results.

Additional steps that are required after you install this hotfix
After you install this hotfix, run the Spsupdatepq.exe command-line tool to apply this hotfix to existing portal sites on the server farm. The Spsupdatepq.exe command-line tool is included in this hotfix package. To run the Spsupdatepq.exe command-line tool after you install the hotfix, follow these steps:
- Start Microsoft Windows Explorer on a front-end Web server in your server farm.
- Copy the Spsupdatepq.exe file that you extracted from the hotfix package to the following folder on the front-end Web server:
Drive
:\Program Files\SharePoint Portal Server\Bin - Double-click Spsupdatepq.exe.
Notes
- You do not have to run the Spsupdatepq.exe command-line tool for any new portal sites that you create on the server farm.
You do not have to run the tool for new portal sites that you create on the server farm because after the hotfix is installed, the indexing component in SharePoint Portal Server 2003 detects the urn:schemas-microsoft-com:publishing:HomeBestBetKeywords property. If a document contains this property, the document and its properties are crawled, but they are not included in the index. Additionally, only exact matches to keywords and exact matches to synonyms of keywords are returned in the search results.
- Run the Spsupdatepq.exe command-line tool one time on each SharePoint Portal Server 2003 server farm to apply this hotfix to existing portal sites on the server farm.
- If you customized the Search Results Web Part, some of the custom settings may not be retained after you run the Spsupdatepq.exe command-line tool. You may have to customize the Search Results Web Part again after you run the tool.
