SUMMARY

In the release version of Microsoft Windows XP, you could not use the Internet Connection Firewall to help protect network bridge connections. With Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), the Windows Firewall has been updated so that you can enable it on network bridge connections. This article describes how to enable, disable, and configure the Windows Firewall on network bridge connections.

MORE INFORMATION

Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 automatically creates an entry in the Windows Firewall program for any network bridges that may exist in the Network Connections folder. To configure these connections, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type wscui.cpl, and then click OK.
  2. Under Manage security settings for, click Windows Firewall.
  3. Click the Advanced tab.
  4. In the Network Connections Settings list, click the entry for the network bridge.
  5. Click Settings.
  6. Make any changes that you want in the Advance Settings dialog box, and then click OK two times.

If you do not want the Windows Firewall to monitor the network bridge connection, in the Network Connections Settings list, click to clear the Network Bridge check box.

If you remove the network bridge from the Network Connections folder, any settings that you made for the network bridge will be lost from the Network Connections Settings list in Windows Firewall.
