SYMPTOMS
When you try to use Legato NetWorker to back up a Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2)-based computer from a remote computer, scheduled backups may not occur as expected.
CAUSE
This issue occurs if Windows Firewall is enabled on the Windows XP SP2-based computer.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, configure an exception to Windows Firewall in Group Policy. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click Run, type gpedit.msc, and then click OK.
- In the left pane, expand Computer Configuration under Local Computer Policy. Expand Administrative Templates, expand Network, expand Network Connections, and then expand Windows Firewall.
- In the left pane, click Domain Profile, and then double-click Windows Firewall: Define program exceptions in the right pane.
- Click Enabled, and then click Show.
- Click Add, and then type the following:

:status
:name
path
is the path of the NetWorker program.Scope
is a list of the network addresses that can communicate through the firewall; this includes * for all networks.Status
indicates an enabled or disabled status. Andname
is the name of the exception. - Click OK, and then click OK again.
