APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2001

SYMPTOMS

When you use Security Sockets Layer (SSL) to connect to your Microsoft SharePoint Server 2001 dashboard site, and you specify the name of the server by using a fully qualified domain name (FQDN), you may receive an error message that is similar to the following:

Object or data matching the name, range, or selection criteria was not found within the scope of this operation.
Provider 2147217895

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the FQDN of the server is not specified in the SecureBindings property of the Web site in the Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) metabase.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the MetaEdit2.2 tool to edit the IIS metabase and specify the FQDN of the server in the SecureBindings property that is configured for the Web site. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Download and install the MetaEdit 2.2 tool.

For additional information about how to download and install the MetaEdit 2.2 tool, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

  2. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click MetaEdit 2.2.
  3. Expand LM, expand W3svc, and then expand 1.
  4. In the right pane, right-click the SecureBindings entry that is not configured with a port number, and then click Delete.
  5. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
  6. Expand W3svc, and then expand the folder that represents the Web site that you want to configure--for example, expand 3.
  7. In the right pane, double-click the SecureBindings entry that is configured with port number 443.
  8. In the Edit Metabase Data dialog box, add the FQDN of the server to the end of the IPAddress:443: entry that appears in the Data box, and then click OK.

For example, after you add the FQDN of the server, the entry in the Data' box may look similar to the following: '

    IPAddress:443:FQDN

  9. Restart the server.
