APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Standard Edition
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise Edition

In Microsoft Exchange Server, the Recipient Update Service may generate multiple incorrect X.400 proxy addresses.

This issue is caused by an error in the X.400 proxy generator. This issue occurs when the following conditions are true:

  • You configure a Recipient Policy to use wildcard characters to generate a proxy address.
  • The wildcard characters represent attribute values. One or more of the attribute values are long.

In this scenario, the applied proxy address will be truncated. This truncated proxy address appears to be unique to the Recipient Update Service. Then, the Recipient Update Service generates an additional, unnecessary proxy address for the recipient every time that it runs. This scenario is most common for public folders.
