APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Standard Edition
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise Edition

SYMPTOMS

You may notice that some recipients receive more proxy addresses than expected. These objects are typically resource mailboxes or Public Folder objects. Additionally, you may experience the following symptoms:

  • The number of proxy addresses may continue to increase.
  • The performance of Microsoft Windows domain controllers may decrease.
  • The processor usage of the Lsass.exe file may be close to 100 percent.

CAUSE

The Microsoft Exchange Recipient Update Service checks existing proxy addresses on recipient objects to verify whether they match the proxy addresses that are specified by recipient policies. If they do not match, the recipient policy proxy addresses are added to the recipient object. Certain formats of existing proxy addresses are incorrectly evaluated as not matching. This behavior causes the Recipient Update Service to add more proxy addresses.
