Issues That Are Fixed in the Hotfix Package

The following issues are fixed in this hotfix package, but they were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article.

  • When you open a Microsoft Word document, comments that appear inside balloons that are in the margin of the document are not correct.

This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
    • You create a Word document on a Microsoft Windows-based computer.
    • You send that Word document as an e-mail attachment to a user who is using a Macintosh Apple-based computer.
    • The recipient opens the e-mail attachment, makes changes to the document with the Track Changes feature in the Macintosh version of Word, and sends the document back to you as an e-mail attachment.
    • You open the returned e-mail attachment in Word and merge the changed document with the original document in the Microsoft Windows version of Word.
Additionally, text that was deleted during changes to the document in the Macintosh version of Word may appear when you open the Word document in the Windows version of Word.
  • After you install the Microsoft Word 2002 hotfix that is described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 821526, nested conditional fields in headers and in footers show empty results.
