Some Windows 2000 SMB Redirector Hotfixes May Cause a Conflict with SP3 for Windows 2000

SYMPTOMS

If you install a post-Service Pack 3 (SP3) version of any of the Windows 2000 hotfixes that are listed in the "More Information" section of this article on a computer on which SP3 for Windows 2000 is installed, or if you install SP3 for Windows 2000 on a computer on which these post-SP3 hotfixes are installed, you may experience either of the following symptoms:

  • You lose some of the functionality of SP3 for Windows 2000.


-or-

  • You lose the functionality of the post-SP3 hotfix.

This issue does not affect any Windows 2000 hotfixes available at the Microsoft Download Center or through Windows Update, including Windows 2000 security hotfixes. This issue affects only a small number of fixes that were made available only to users who called Microsoft Product Support Services between July 23, 2002 and August 8, 2002. These hotfixes are listed in the "Resolution" and "More Information" sections of this article.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because post-SP3 versions of the hotfixes listed in the "More Information" section of this article may not include the latest updates and fixes to guarantee compliance with the installation of SP3 for Windows 2000.

RESOLUTION

The post-SP3 versions of the Windows 2000 hotfixes that are listed in the "More Information" section of this article have been repackaged to verify the inclusion of previous fixes.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
