SYMPTOMS

You may receive one of the following error messages on a blue screen:

  • Stop 0x0000001E ( C0000005, 80444028, 00000000, 00000018 )
    KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

    Stop 0x0000000A (00000018, 000000002, 00000000, 80446459)
    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Note that the last three parameters may vary.

CAUSE

When the redirector extends certain allocation sizes, it does not update Cache Manager with the changes. This can cause the computer to stop responding (hang).

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.
