How to Download and Install the Update

Client Update

If you installed Microsoft Word 2000 from CD-ROM, follow these steps to download and install the client update:

  1. With your Web browser, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

    Microsoft scanned this file for viruses. Microsoft used the most current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the file was posted. The file is stored on security-enhanced servers that help to prevent any unauthorized changes to the file.
  2. Click Save to save the Wrd0901.exe file to the selected folder.
  3. In Windows Explorer, double-click Wrd0901.exe.
  4. If you are prompted to install the update, click Yes.
  5. Click Yes to accept the License Agreement.
  6. Insert your Word 2000 (or Office 2000) CD-ROM if you are prompted to do so, and then click OK.
  7. When you receive a message that indicates the installation was successful, click OK.

NOTE: After you install the public update, you cannot uninstall it.

Administrative Update

If you installed Word 2000 from a server location, the server administrator must update the server location with the administrative public update and deploy that update to your computer.

If you are the server administrator, follow these steps to download the administrative update:

  2. Download the file to your desktop.
  3. In Windows Explorer, double-click the Wrd0901a.exe file.
  4. Click Yes to accept the License Agreement.
  5. In the Please type the location where you want to place the extracted files box, type C:\wrd0901a, and then click OK.
  6. Click Yes when you are prompted to create the folder.
  7. Click Start and then click Run. Type the following command in the Open box

    msiexec /a admin path\MSI file /p C:\folder listed above\admin msp file name SHORTFILENAMES=1

    where admin path is the path to your administrative installation point for Word 2000 (for example, C:\Word2000), and

    where MSI file is the MSI database package for the Word 2000 product (for example, ProPlus.msi).
  8. To deploy the update to the client workstations, click Start and then click Run. Type the following command in the Open box

    msiexec /i admin path\MSI file REINSTALL=WORDFiles REINSTALLMODE=vomus

    where admin path is the path to your administrative installation point for Word 2000 (for example, C:\Word2000), and

    where MSI file is the MSI database package for the Word 2000 product (for example, ProPlus.msi).

How to Determine Whether the Public Update Is Installed

The Word 2000 Update: April 25, 2002, affects the file Winword.exe. The Word 2000 Update: April 25, 2002, updates the version of Microsoft Word 2000 to version 9.0.6328. To find this build number on your computer, follow these steps:

  1. On the Help menu in Word, click About Microsoft Word.
  2. In the About Microsoft Word dialog box, click System Information.
  3. To view Build, expand Applications and then click Microsoft Word 2000.

NOTE: If the Word 2000 Update: April 25, 2002, is already applied on your computer, you receive the following message when you try to install this update:

WD2000: Word Stops Responding When You Change the Default Mail Type from RTF to HTML with Messages Open

When you try to forward an e-mail message after you change the message type from RTF to HTML, you receive the following error message:

Insufficient memory to complete the operation. The request font cannot be displayed.

WD2000: When You Hold the Left Mouse Button on a Table Anchor, Word Causes CPU Usage to Increase to 100%

When you hold the left mouse button for more than a few seconds, CPU usage increases to 100% in a Microsoft Windows Terminal Server environment.

Macros in a Word document may run if the document was changed at the binary level.

When you have a text box selected, and then you click between the text box and a table, Word may stop responding.

When you randomly open files and save them, Word may stop responding.

WD2000: Line Numbers Are Displayed and Printed Incorrectly in Hebrew Word

Line numbers may move from left to right and superimpose themselves over the text in a printed document in Word.

When you select an object that is not fully redrawn, Word may stop responding.

After you turn on Chinese language support, if you use a mail merge data source that contains a seven-digit number followed by a Chinese character, Word may stop responding.

WD2000: Danish Hyphenation in a Document Can Cause Pagination Problems

Use of Danish hyphenation can result in either missing text or repeated text across a page break when the document is printed or displayed in print layout view.

When you use line numbers in the Hebrew version of Word, the line numbers may be superimposed over text in the printed document.

WD2000: Landscape Orientation Is Not Printed Correctly When Scale Is Changed

When you print a landscape document that was scaled up in size (for example, landscape letter [8.5-by-11-inch page size] to landscape tabloid [11-by-17-inch paper size]), the document will be printed on the original paper size instead of the new paper size.

WD2000: Bullets Change When You Paste Text from PowerPoint into Word

When you copy text from PowerPoint 2000 that contains customized bullets (using either extended characters in the font, or a graphical bullet) the bullets are pasted in Word 2000 as boxes or question marks.

Word object properties may not retain the values that are explicitly set in Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) macros. The problem occurs when range properties are read from certain objects, such as the Information object.

WD2000: "Continuous Page Break" Changes to "Next Page" After You Run a Macro

If you use a macro to set the orientation for a section to landscape, other section break types may unexpectedly change. Using manual steps to change the section orientation does not produce the same result.

WD2000: Printed Text Is Truncated When a Table Spans a Page Break

When you print a document that contains a table that breaks across pages, and you use a Hewlett-Packard LaserJet 5SI or a Hewlett-Packard LaserJet 8000, the printed file may contain characters that are cut off.

WD2000: Document with Hidden Pages Is Displayed and Printed with Many Blank Pages

A document with pages that are marked as hidden is displayed and printed with many more blank pages when you open the document in Word 2000. When you print from Word 97 or Word 2002, the same file is printed with fewer pages. (This is the behavior that you want when pages are marked as hidden and the Show hidden text option is turned off.)

WD2000: Setting the OnAction Property of a Custom Menu May Cause an Insufficient Memory Error Message

If you select a custom shortcut menu that has its OnAction property set to a Visual Basic for Applications macro, you may receive the following error message:

There is insufficient memory or disk space. Close extra windows and save your work.



WD2000: Error Message When You Save a New Document Based on a Signed Template

When you save a new document that is based on a digitally signed template that contains a macro, you may receive an error message, and Word may stop responding.

WD2000: You Are Prompted for User Name and Password When You Close a Password-Protected File

When you close a password-protected file, you may be prompted again for the information that you used to open the file.

WD2000: Long Path to a Data Source May Cause Error Message

If you have a long path to a data source that is connected by Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) to a Word mail merge, you may receive an error message.

WD2000: Error Message in Word When You Open an E-mail Attachment

You may receive an error message in Word under the following conditions:

  1. Word is your e-mail editor.
  2. You open an e-mail attachment.
  3. Your antivirus software displays a message.



WD2000: Closing an E-mail Message May Cause an Error Message

You may receive an error message in Word under the following conditions:

  1. Word is your e-mail editor.
  2. You have multiple e-mail messages open.
  3. You close one message.



WD2000: Text Is Missing or Repeated If You Use Hyphenation in a Document That Contains Danish Text

When you use hyphenation (on the Tools menu, point to Language, and then click Hyphenation) in a Word document that contains text that is formatted as Danish, text may be missing or repeated across a page break when the document is displayed or when you print the document.

WD2000: Negative Numbers in Word Table Are Misaligned

If you resize a table or cell that contains negative numbers, the negative numbers may no longer be aligned with the nonnegative numbers in the table or cell.
