SYMPTOMS

When you try to browse the gallery in Picture It!, you may receive an error message similar to the following:

Invalid Syntax

Additionally, you may experience that the submenu flashes briefly. However, the submenu does not remain.

CAUSE

This issue can occur when the User.sbc file is corrupted.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, delete the corrupted file, remove Picture It!, and then reinstall Picture It!. To do this, follow these steps:

NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.

Method 1: Rename the User.sbc File

  1. On a Microsoft Windows 95-based or Windows 98-based computer, click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.


On a Windows Millennium (Me)-based, Windows 2000-based, or Windows XP-based computer, click Start, click Search, and then click All Files or Folders.

  1. In the Named line, type user.sbc.
  2. In the Look In line, click My Computer, and then verify that the "Include Subfolders" option is selected.
  3. On a Windows 95-based or Windows 98-based computer, click Find Now.


On a Windows Millennium (Me)-based, Windows 2000-based, or Windows XP-based computer, click Search.

  1. Right-click User.sbc, and then click Rename.
  2. Type user.old, and then press ENTER.
  3. Quit the find program, and then try Picture It! again.


If these steps do not work, continue to the next section.

Method 2: Remove and Reinstall Picture It!

  1. Start Windows Explorer.
  2. Locate C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\Microsoft\Shoebox\User.sbc.
  3. Right-click User.sbc, and then click Delete.


When you receive the confirmation message, click Yes.

  1. Quit Windows Explorer.
  2. Start Picture It!

Method 3: Remove and Reinstall Picture It!

  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2. In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  3. In the list of installed programs, click Picture It!, and then click Remove.
  4. Follow the instructions onscreen to complete the removal process.
  5. When the removal process is complete, start Windows Explorer.
  6. Right-click C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\Microsoft\Shoebox\User.sbc, and then click Delete.


When you receive the confirmation message, click Yes.

  1. Insert your Picture It! CD-ROM.
  2. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  4. In the right pane, click Add New Programs.
  5. Click Picture It!, and then click Add.
  6. When you are prompted to type a folder to install Picture It! in, type a path that is different from the original installation path.
  7. Follow the instructions that appear to complete the installation process.
