SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to use the Redo command to restore the design theme of your organization chart, you may receive the following error message

Runtime Error!

Program: x:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Visio10\Visio.exe

abnormal program termination

where x is the drive on which Microsoft Visio is installed. When you click OK in response to this error message, Visio quits.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you use the Redo command immediately after you use the Undo command to restore the design theme of your organization chart.

For example, this behavior can occur when you do the following:

  1. You click Options on the Organization Chart menu.
  2. You change the design theme of your organization chart in the Org chart theme box, and then click OK.
  3. You do any of the following to perform the undo operation:
    • Click Undo Edit Properties on the Edit menu.


-or-

    • Press CTRL+Z.


-or-

    • Click Undo.
  1. You then do any of the following to perform the redo operation:
    • Click Undo Redo Properties on the Edit menu.


-or-

    • Press CTRL+Y.


-or-

    • Click Redo.


RESOLUTION

Temporary Workaround

To temporarily work around this problem, apply the design theme that you want to your organization chart. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Start Visio, and then open your organization chart.
  2. On the Organization Chart menu, click Options.
  3. Under Shape display, click the theme that you want in the Org chart theme box in the Options dialog box, and then click OK.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Visio 2002 Service Release 1 (SR-1).
