SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Outlook 2002, you can set the mailing address to Business, Home, or Other. If you set the Home or Other address with the This is the mailing address setting, you cannot use the Insert Address button to insert the Business address in Microsoft Word 2002, in Microsoft Office Word 2003, or in Microsoft Office Word 2007.

WORKAROUND

In Outlook, follow these steps to change the designation of the This is the mailing address setting to Business:

  1. Start or switch to Outlook, and then click Contacts on the Outlook Shortcuts bar.
  2. Double-click a name, and then click the General tab.
  3. Click the drop-down button to select the Address Type setting.


You should see the three choices of Business, Home, and Other. Click Business.

  1. Click This is the mailing address.
  2. Click Save and Close.
  3. Minimize or quit Outlook.
  4. In Word, click the Insert Address button.
  5. In the Select Name dialog box, click the down arrow next to Show Names from the, and then click Contacts (under the Outlook Address Book item).
  6. Select the name that you want to use, click the Mailing button, and then click OK.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

The Insert Address button can be accessed by any of the following methods.

Method 1

In Word 2002 and in Word 2003

On the Tools menu, point to Letters and Mailings, and then click Envelopes and Labels.

In Word 2007

  1. Click the Mailings tab.
  2. In the Create group, click Envelopes or Labels.

Method 2

In Word 2002 and in Word 2003

On the Tools menu, point to Letters and Mailings, click Letter Wizard, and then click the Recipient Info tab.

Method 3

Place the Insert Address command or button on a toolbar.
