The information in this article applies to:

SUMMARY
The Active Directory Client Extension (DSClient) for Windows NT 4.0 contains an upgrade to the Active Directory Services Interfaces (ADSI) version 2.5 libraries.
Microsoft will provide support for ADSI version 2.5 without the DSClient Extension on a "best effort" basis. Earlier versions of ADSI, namely 1.0 and 2.0, are no longer supported.

Microsoft recommends that customers use the ADSI libraries included with DSClient on Windows NT 4.0-based computers. The exception to this recommendation is if access to Novell Directory Services (NDS) is required. In this case, ADSI 2.5 should continue to be used with the NDS and NWCOMPAT providers on Windows NT 4.0. The reason for this is that there are known compatibility issues with the underlying Client Services for Novell Netware (CSNW) in Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack (SP) 6a and the ADSI libraries included with DSClient.
