SYMPTOMS

When you run the Office 2000 File and Registry Eraser Utility for Microsoft Office CD1 (Eraser2000.exe) or the Office 2000 File and Registry Eraser Utility for Microsoft Office CD2 (Eraser2000a.exe), you may receive one of the following error messages:

  • Cannot find Msvbvm60.dll. Please run setup again.

  • The path\system\msvbvm60.dll file appears to be corrupt.
Reinstall the file, and then try again.

where path is the folder for Windows.
  • The msvbvm60.dll file is linked to missing export OLEAUT32.DLL:421.

  • A required .DLL file, MSVBVM60.DLL, was not found.

  • The dynamic link library Msvbvm60.dll could not be found in the specified path path

where path is the entire PATH environment variable value.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if either Office 2000 or Microsoft Publisher 2000 was installed in such a way that the Msvbvm60.dll and Stdole2.tlb files were not installed.

For Eraser 2000 to remove Office 2000 successfully, both the Msvbvm60.dll file and the Stdole2.tlb file must be present. This is because Eraser 2000 is designed to be run after a successful uninstallation of Office 2000 or Publisher 2000.

RESOLUTION

A self-extracting executable file that includes the Msvbvm60.dll and Stdole2.tlb files, as well as other Microsoft Visual Basic run-time files, is available for download.

239938 OFF2000: Utility to Completely Remove Remaining Office 2000 CD1 Files and Registry Entries

After you download and run VBRun60.exe, you can run the Office 2000 File and Registry Eraser Utility for Microsoft Office CD1 and the Office 2000 File and Registry Eraser Utility for Microsoft Office CD2.

NOTE: Eraser does not run on operating systems later than Microsoft Windows 2000.

MORE INFORMATION

The Office 2000 File and Registry Eraser Utility for Microsoft Office CD1 and the Office 2000 File and Registry Eraser Utility for Microsoft Office CD2 remove most of the files and Windows registry settings that remain on the computer after you remove Microsoft Office 2000 CD2 or Microsoft Office 2000 CD1. These utilities are designed to be run after you run the Setup program for Office 2000 CD1 or CD2 and click Remove Office. Although not all Office 2000 files and registry settings are removed, the settings that remain do not harm your system. It is expected that, after using this utility, you will again install Office onto your system.
