FIX: Generating Scripts to Multiple Files May Yield Error 20524

SYMPTOMS

Enterprise Manager may return the SQL Distributed Management Objects (DMO) error 20524 when generating database scripts:

Error 20524:[SQL-DMO] ScriptMode specified as ToFileOnly, but no filename specified -- recheck parameters.

This behavior has been observed when choosing these scripting options:

  1. Script database users and database roles.
  2. Create one file per object.


WORKAROUND

Generate the entire script to a single file.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server 7.0. This problem has been corrected in U.S. Service Pack 2 for Microsoft SQL Server 7.0. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
