SYMPTOMS
To install Proxy 2.0 on a Windows 2000-based server, you must use the Microsoft Proxy Windows 2000 Installation Wizard. The wizard modifies Proxy Server Setup and includes fixes for running Proxy Server on Windows 2000. The wizard prompts you for the location of the Proxy Server 2.0 installation files. This location can be the Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0 CD-ROM or a network share.
If you specify a network share that contains a space, the wizard does not succeed and displays the following error message:
CAUSE
The wizard uses Xcopy.exe to copy the files from the network share. Xcopy interprets a space as the end of the path.
RESOLUTION
To work around this behavior, use either of the following methods:
- Map a drive to the target path that contains the Proxy Server 2.0 files, and then select the mapped drive in the wizard. For example, if the installation files are located on the \\Server1\New Folder\Proxy2 share, map a network drive so that the drive letters points to the Proxy2 folder.
- Rename the folders in the network path so that they do not contain any spaces.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
