SYMPTOMS

When you connect a Microsoft SideWinder game controller to the game port on a Creative Labs Sound Blaster sound card, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

  • You cannot select the game controller in the Game Controllers tool in Control Panel.

  • You cannot properly calibrate the game controller.

  • The game controller does not function properly when you play a game.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you are using outdated sound card drivers or if the sound card drivers are missing or damaged.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Download the latest drivers for your sound card from the following Creative Labs Web site:
  2. Copy the downloaded file to a blank, formatted floppy disk, and then double-click the file to extract the necessary files.
  3. To install the updated sound card drivers, follow the instructions in the Readme.txt file on the floppy disk.
  4. Install the Microsoft SideWinder Game Controllers version 3.02 software.
