Issues that were not previously documented in the Microsoft Knowledge Base
Office 2003 SP3 also fixes the following Word 2003 issues that were not previously documented in the Microsoft Knowledge Base.
You cannot apply bold formatting, italic formatting, or underline formatting to body text
Consider the following scenario. You work in Word 2003 on a computer that is running the Swedish version of Windows XP. In a Word document, you have a table that uses a fixed column width in the header. When you try to apply bold formatting, italic formatting, or underline formatting to text in the body of the document, the formatting is not applied.
A document that is created from a template in a Web location is unexpectedly attached to a template in the Temporary Internet Files folder
Consider the following scenario. You have a custom template that is located in a Web location. You create a document that is based on the template. You save the document and then close the document. When you open the document and then click Templates and Add-Ins on the Tools menu, the document template that is attached to the document is not the template in the Web location. Instead, the template that is attached to the document is located in the Temporary Internet Files folder on the computer. Additionally, customizations that are contained in the custom template in the Web location are not available in the document.
Some characters that have the Arial Narrow font applied to them are not displayed as expected
When you apply the Arial Narrow font to text, characters that use a comma under the baseline or the Romanian characters "Ss" and "Tt," are not displayed as expected. This problem is fixed in the following font files:
- Arialn.ttf
- Arialnb.ttf
- Arialnbi.ttf
- Arialni.ttf
East Asian text that has an East Asian font applied to it may be unreadable
Consider the following scenario. You open a document that contains full-width East Asian characters or half-width alphanumeric characters. When you try to read the document, some text may be unreadable. Additionally, some character spacing may be inconsistent. For example, there may be too much character spacing for half-width alphanumeric characters or not enough character spacing for full-width East Asian characters. This problem may occur when the text has any of the following East Asian fonts applied to it:
- Microsoft Meiryo (Japanese)
- Microsoft JhengHei (Traditional Chinese)
- Microsoft YaHei (Simplified Chinese)
- Microsoft Malgun Gothic (Korean)
You cannot copy and paste text from a Web page to Word
When you try to copy and paste text from a Web page, such as from an e-mail message in Windows Internet Explorer 7, to Word, Word stops responding. Or, Word closes unexpectedly. Additionally, you receive the following error message:
When you view the data in the error report, the report contains an error signature that resembles the following error signature.

---|---|---|---|---|
Winword.exe | 11.0.8106.0 | Mso.dll | 11.0.8107.0 | 000322ad |
You cannot find text by using Windows Desktop Search on a Windows Vista-based computer
Consider the following scenario. You scan a Word document in Microsoft Office Document Imaging. Then, you save the file as a picture file such as a .tif file. When you try to search for text in the file by using Windows Desktop Search on a Windows Vista-based computer, the text is not found.
