SYMPTOMS

When you try to access a secure Web site by using Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, you cannot access the Web site. Additionally, you may receive one of the following error messages:

The page cannot be displayed.

Cannot find server.

Note Secure Web sites are generally accessed by using a URL that includes the https:// protocol.

CAUSE

This issue occurs if you are using certain versions of Norton Internet Security 2001 or Norton Personal Firewall 2001, and the CcApp.exe program is not running. You may not be able to access secure Web sites if the CcApp.exe program is not started when you start your computer, or if your firewall is blocking the program from starting. By default, the CcApp.exe program starts when you start your computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods.

Method 1

  1. Click Start, click Run, type explorer.exe, and then click OK.
  2. Locate and then click the %windir%:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared folder, and then double-click CcApp.exe.
  3. Open Internet Explorer and check to see whether the secure Web site opens successfully. If the secure Web site does open successfully, make sure that the CcApp.exe program is enabled as a startup item by using the Msconfig.exe utility. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, click Run, type msconfig, and then click OK.
    2. On the Startup tab, click to select the ccApp check box in the Startup Item area.

Note If the ccApp check box is already selected, continue to Method 2. If the CcApp.exe program is not listed in the Msconfig.exe utility, create a shortcut to the file in the %windir%:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup folder. To do this, follow steps 4 to 11.
  4. Click Start, click Search, and then click All files and folders.
  5. In the All or part of the file name: box, type ccApp.exe.
  6. In the Look in list, click My Computer, and then click Search.
  7. In the list of found files, right-click the ccApp.exe file, point to Send To, and then click Desktop (create shortcut).
  8. Close all the open windows. You should now see the ccApp.exe shortcut on the desktop.
  9. Right-click the ccApp.exe shortcut on the desktop, and then click Copy.
  10. Right-click Start, and then click Open.
  11. Locate and then click the %windir%:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup folder, and then click Paste.

Method 2

Verify the configuration of your third-party firewall or antivirus programs.

Make sure that the third-party firewall or antivirus programs that are installed on your computer are configured correctly and are not preventing you from connecting to security-enhanced Web sites. For more information, see the product documentation, or contact the program vendor.
