You cannot automatically create a new subweb when you publish a project after you install Microsoft Project Server 2002 Service Pack 1 (SP1)

Article ID: 837602

Article Last Modified on 11/30/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Project Server 2002
  • Microsoft Office Project Web Access

SYMPTOMS

You may find that after you install Microsoft Project Server 2002 Service Pack 1 (SP1) on the server, you cannot automatically create a new SharePoint Team Services from Microsoft subweb when you publish a project to the server.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if all the following conditions are true:

  • Microsoft Project Server 2002 Service Pack 1 (SP1) is installed on the server.
  • In Microsoft Project Web Access, on the Authentication Options page, the Require Microsoft Project to authenticate to the Microsoft Project Server before publishing option is turned off.
  • You do not log on to Microsoft Project Server 2002 before you publish a project to the server.

When the Require Microsoft Project to authenticate to the Microsoft Project Server before publishing option is turned off in Project Web Access, you do not have to authenticate to Microsoft Project Server 2002 before you can publish a project. This option permits backward-compatibility with Microsoft Project 2000 so that Project 2000 users can publish projects to Project Server 2002.

However, after you install Project Server 2002 SP1 on the server, you have to log on the Microsoft Project Server if you want to automatically create a new subweb when you publish a project.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, do one of the following, depending on your situation:

  • If you do not require backwards-compatibility with Project 2000, turn on the Require Microsoft Project to authenticate to the Microsoft Project Server before publishing option in Microsoft Project Web Access. To do so, follow these steps:
    1. In Microsoft Project Web Access, click Admin.
    2. Click Manage Security, and then click Specify how users should be authenticated to the server.
    3. Under Authentication required when publishing from Microsoft Project, click to select the Require Microsoft Project to authenticate to the Microsoft Project Server before publishing check box, and then click Save Changes.
  • If you require backward-compatibility with Project 2000, manually create the subwebs that you want in Microsoft Project Web Access. To do so, follow these steps:
    1. In Microsoft Project Web Access, click Admin.
    2. Click Manage SharePoint Team Services, and then click Manage SharePoint Subwebs for Microsoft Project Server.
    3. On the Manage SharePoint Team Services subwebs for Microsoft Project Server page, in the Provision a subweb for box, click the project that you want, and then click Create Subweb.
