SYMPTOMS

When you try to use a dial-up connection to connect to the Internet, the modem does not dial the phone number or it misdials the phone number. Additionally, when you view the Connect using list on the General tab in the Connection_name properties, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

  • Duplicate modem entries appear.
  • The check box for the modem that is used for the connection is not selected.
  • Configuration options for the modem that is used for the connection are lost.


CAUSE

This problem occurs if multiple modem devices are installed in the computer and if one of the following conditions exist:

  • You disable and then reenable a modem.


-or-

  • You remove a modem.


-or-

  • One of the installed modems is not present in the current hardware profile.
