"Windows Media Player Caused an Error in Kernel32.dll" Error Message When You Start Microsoft Windows Media Player 9

SYMPTOMS

When you start Windows Media Player 9, you may receive the following error message:

Windows Media Player has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.



If the error message is still displayed and you want to see the data that the error report contains, click the "click here" link at the bottom of the message box. Error signature information appears that may be similar to the following:

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the Custsat.dll file is missing or damaged.

Note: This file is usually located in the C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player folder.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, reinstall Windows Media Player 9.
