SUMMARY
This step-by-step article describes how to create an SMTP Virtual Server in the Internet Information Manager Snap-in that is running on a Windows 2000 server. A member of the administrators group will do all procedures.

Create an SMTP Virtual Server
The following procedures start in the Internet Information Manager snap-in.
To start the snap-in and create Virtual Server:
- Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Internet Information Manager.
- In the Internet Information Services snap-in, point to New on the Action menu, and then click SMTP Virtual Server.
- When the New SMTP Virtual Server Wizard starts, type the description of your server in the SMTP virtual server description box, and then click Next.
- On the Select IP Address page, type the IP address for your server, and then click Next.
- On the Select Home Directory page, type the path to your server's home directory, and then click Next.
- On the Select Default Domain page, type the name of the default domain for your server in the Domain box, and then click Finish.
Troubleshooting
- If the newly-created SMTP virtual server does not appear in the console tree, click Refresh on the Action menu.
- If an IP Address is not selected on the Select IP Address page of the Wizard, the server will not be able to start. You can modify the IP address or port setting in the Advanced setting of your SMTP virtual server's properties.
- Make sure that the IIS computer has a static IP address that is bound to the network adapter. Your SMTP virtual server will not start if the IIS computer uses a dynamic IP address that is assigned by a DHCP server.
- Type the FQDN for the default domain name when you create the SMTP virtual server by using the wizard.
