MS-DOS 8.00 was never released as a seperate entity like its previous versions. It was only found on Windows ME, which was released in 2000. A bootdisk image can be found in diskcopy.dll which is included with [[Windows:XP|Windows XP]], [[Windows:Vista|Windows Vista]] and [[Windows:7|Windows 7]]. It is a modified version of the Windows ME bootdisk. When a removable storage device is connected and the user wants to format it, there is an option to create a MS-DOS bootdisk, however, the option is only enabled when formating floppies.

MS-DOS 8.0 files are still present in modern OSes such as Vista and 7, but the internal version has remained unchanged since version 5.0. It is the last version of MS-DOS ever created. After that, Microsoft discontinued both MS-DOS and Windows 9X lines in favor of the NT line, which has been brought to consumers with the release of Windows XP.

MS-DOS 8.00 is the last version of of the MS-DOS operating system by Microsoft. Unlike most versions of the operating system, it was not released as a separate product, but was bundled with Windows ME.

It is still possible to create MS-DOS boot disks in Windows XP and later. Boot disks created in this way use the disk image included in diskcopy.dll.
