Windows Longhorn build 3718 is a build of Windows Longhorn leaked on April 20, 2004. The windows do not contain glass effects at all until later milestones, but there are minimize and mazimize effects. It can be enabled in the Display Properties. This particular build is only one out of 3 in Milestone 3.

Not surprisingly, this build is almost completely the same as that of Build 3706 and Build 3713, and as such, is also not much different from Windows NT 5 (Windows 2000/XP/.NET Server 2003) at this point.

Unlike later builds, this build is very stable and rarely crashes.

Major changes

This build is the first one known to include:

  • a fully working version of Desktop Composition Engine, which can be enabled in Display Properties, with animations on window closing and minimizing;[1][2][3]
  • a new alternative thiner taskbar;[4]
  • the information about folders displayed in the "Tiles" view mode;[5]
  • the integration of Windows Media Player inside Windows Explorer and inside the sidebar;[6][7]
  • a wizard for importing contacts to the "My Contacts" special folder.[8]
