Nickel is the 22H1 development semester of Windows 11 which work began for in March 2021 and will be followed by Copper in the first half of 2022.
Early builds of Nickel still use the older Windows 10 branding and user interface as they predate the public unveil of Windows 11. Late builds from the release branch contain version 22H2 branding, which suggests that the upcoming Windows 11 update may be based on Nickel.
