Information about build interest ratings:
The more interesting a build is, the higher value /10 it gets. The longer it has been since a new interesting feature in a build, the lower score it gets. For me, visual changes make a build more interesting so that is the most important metric in determining this value.

Information about build interest ratings:

The more interesting a build is, the higher value /10 it gets. The longer it has been since a new interesting feature in a build, the lower score it gets. For me, visual changes make a build more interesting so that is the most important metric in determining this value.

Good luck!

Developer Release - the beginning of Windows 98

Build 1351

Installed: Yes

Installation Problems: none

Installation Difficulty: 2/10

Installation Notes: I had the computer without ACPI so the build was installed normally. Else the computer would be crashed with RSoD. But still pretty easy.

How interesting is it? (IMO): 4/10

Build Notes: After the first boot the graphical glitches have occurred on the screen. It were fixed after the restart.

Build 1353

Installed: Yes

Installation Problems: During the file copying, it installs the older version of inetmib1.dll. So I kept current version of this file. But else there are no problems.

Installation Difficulty: 2/10

Installation Notes: Same as the previous build.

How interesting is it? (IMO): 7/10

Build Notes: The CD contains new stuff in the /BETAONLY folder.

Build 1387 Installed: Yes Installation Problems: I had to keep the current versions of files during the file copying. Installation Difficulty: 4/10 Installation Notes: Same as previous builds. How interesting is it? (IMO): 5/10 Build Notes: None

Beta 1 - Some Windows 95 mentions were used in parts of the OS, but by the end almost all mentions were changed to Memphis

Build 1400 Installed: Yes Installation Problems: I had to keep the current versions of files during the file copying. Also I had to copy installation files to the C: drive prior to the setup in order to install drivers. Installation Difficulty: 5/10 Installation Notes: Same as previous builds. But the Setup has been revamped. How interesting is it? (IMO): 5/10 Build Notes: The first Beta 1 Build. It also introduced the Show Desktop button.

Build 1410 Installed: Yes Installation Problems: Same as previous build. Installation Difficulty: 5/10 Installation Notes: Nothing went wrong. How interesting is it? (IMO): 4/10 Build Notes: It introduced Settings Wizards.

Build 1411 Installed: Yes Installation Problems: Same as Build 1387. Installation Difficulty: 4/10 Installation Notes: Nothing went wrong. How interesting is it? (IMO): 2/10 Build Notes: It reverted to the Developer Release boot screen.

Build 1415 Installed: Yes Installation Problems: Same as Build 1387. Installation Difficulty: 4/10 Installation Notes: Nothing went wrong. How interesting is it? (IMO): 3/10 Build Notes: This is the last build to include the Show Desktop button at the right side of the taskbar and to have the Settings Wizards.

Build 1423 Installed: Yes Installation Problems: Same as Build 1387. Installation Difficulty: 5/10 Installation Notes: Nothing went wrong, except it installs older version of Internet Explorer. How interesting is it? (IMO): 7/10 Build Notes: Removed the Windows Desktop Update and Show Desktop button. Also the Internet Explorer was downgraded to version 3.02. But it includes a slightly newer version of ActiveMovie. But the most fun was from the Interactive CD Sampler on CD-ROM.

Build 1434 Installed: Yes Installation Problems: Same as Build 1387 Installation Difficulty: 5/10 Installation Notes: Same as build 1423. But the setup's appearance has been changed. How interesting is it? (IMO): 5/10 Build Notes: It included new bug report utility, the Memphis HelpDesk, and the Task Scheduler.

Build 1488 Installed: Yes Installation Problems: Same as Build 1387 Installation Difficulty: 4/10 Installation Notes: The setup billboard text has become boldier. How interesting is it? (IMO): 3/10 Build Notes: It introduced another version of Beta 1 boot screen. Internet Explorer 4 is included again.

Build 1500 Installed: Yes Installation Problems: Same as Build 1387. Also because the Winsetup.bin file wasn't recognised by PCem, I replaced this file with the one from Build 1488. Installation Difficulty: 4/10 Installation Notes: Nothing interesting, but most of the changes are gonna appear in Build 1602 Setup. But I can notice the solid blue color on the first boot. How interesting is it? (IMO): 3/10 Build Notes: MSN and Internet Explorer updated.

Build 1511 Installed: Yes Installation Problems: Same Winsetup.bin problem from the previous build (I replaced with file from Build 1488). Also the AOL 3.0 installation files were missing, so I skipped them. Installation Difficulty: 6/10 Installation Notes: Nothing interesting. The final 15% of copying files were slow. How interesting is it? (IMO): 5/10 Build Notes: The gradients now resemble the RTM. It introduced the Entertainment Shell. Updated NetMeeting. This build oddly reuses the Developer Release's shutdown screen.

Build 1513 Installed: Yes Installation Problems: Same Winsetup.bin bug that appears in all 15xx builds. Installation Difficulty: 6/10 Installation Notes: Same as Build 1511. How interesting is it? (IMO): 2/10 Build Notes: The last build to report "Starting Memphis" message prior to the boot screen.

Build 1518 Installed: Yes Installation Problems: Same as build 1513. Also the Online Services files were missing, so I skipped them. Installation Difficulty: 6/10 Installation Notes: Same as Build 1511. How interesting is it? (IMO): 4/10 Build Notes: The Outlook Express News and Outlook Express Mail are integrated into one Outlook Express.

Build 1525 Installed: Yes Installation Problems: Same as build 1513. Installation Difficulty: 6/10 Installation Notes: Same as Build 1511. How interesting is it? (IMO): 7/10 Build Notes: The official Beta 1 Build. The new Beta 1 boot screen has been introduced. The Windows Desktop Update is installed by default.
