SYMPTOMS
When you have two Windows Internet Name Service (WINS) servers that are configured to replicate with each other across a router or firewall, you may receive the following error in the event log on one or both of the WINS Servers:
Event ID: 4202 Source: WINS Description: Attempt to connect to the remote WINS server with address a.b.c.d returned with an error. Check to see that the remote WINS server is running and available.
Where a.b.c.d is the IP address of the remote WINS Server.
Additionally, you have verified that the remote WINS server is running and operating correctly. You are able to communicate with the remote server and connect to its resources.
CAUSE
Your router or firewall is blocking TCP port 42 (Host Name Server).
RESOLUTION
