Last reviewed: September 12, 1996
Article ID: Q99659

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 2.1, 3.0, 4.0, 4.0a
  • The OS/2 operating system version 2.0

SUMMARY

If you are running Microsoft Excel for Windows with OS/2 version 2.0, you may receive the following error message

   Not enough memory

if the DPMI_MEMORY_LIMIT is set too low for the Microsoft Excel WIN-OS/2 session.

MORE INFORMATION

OS/2 version 2.0 has the ability to run Microsoft Excel for Windows in a WIN-OS/2 session. Each WIN-OS/2 session has settings that control how that session runs.

The DPMI_MEMORY_LIMIT setting defines the amount of DPMI (MS-DOS Protected Memory Interface) available to a particular WIN-OS2 session. The default value for this setting is 2 megabytes (MB). Increasing this setting for the Microsoft Excel WIN-OS/2 session will provide more memory to Microsoft Excel.

If the application has been migrated, use the following steps:

  1. Select the icon
  2. Click the right mouse key, then choose settings
  3. In the Win/OS2 Settings section, scroll down until you see DPMI Limit = (Example) "2"
  4. Change the 2 megabyte setting to (example) "12" or whatever setting is appropriate for your system

OS/2 is manufactured by International Business Machines Corporation (IBM), a vendor independent of Microsoft; we make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this product's performance or reliability.
