SYMPTOMS

A Windows Server 2008-based computer that is running Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol for IP version 6 (DHCPv6) may assign an IPv6 address that is from its exclusion range to a client computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, do not configure an exclusion range that includes more than 50 percent of the total available addresses in the scope.

MORE INFORMATION

The available addresses in an IPv6 scope are 2 to the power of 64 (2^64). You do not have to configure an exclusion range that is greater than 2 to the power of 32 (2^32).
