SYMPTOMS

When you use the Multicast component of Windows Deployment Service (WDS) on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008, an error may be logged in the event log. This error states that another multicast server is using the same multicast IP address.

You may experience this problem even when no other multicast server is present on the network.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if a malformed packet is received on the IP address. The IP address may be multicast or unicast.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
