SUMMARY

This article describes how to set up and use the Xbox 360 Big Button Controller together with the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system.

MORE INFORMATION

The Xbox 360 Big Button Controller is exclusively for use with the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system. For information about how to use the Big Button Controller with a particular game, see your game manual.

Set up your Big Button Controller

Before you can use your Xbox 360 Big Button Controller with your Xbox 360 console, you must perform the following tasks:

  1. Insert the batteries. The Big Button Controller uses only AA disposable, alkaline batteries.
  2. Insert the infrared receiver cable into one of the console's controller ports.

Note When the infrared receiver is connected to the console, all quadrants in the console's Ring of Light will illuminate green. This does not affect any wireless controllers that are connected or will be connected to the console.

Insert batteries

To insert batteries into the controller, follow these steps:

  1. Remove the battery cover.
  2. Insert two new alkaline AA (LR6) batteries as shown on the underside of the battery cover. For best performance, AA rechargeable batteries are not recommended.
  3. Replace the battery cover.

Connect your controller

Up to four Big Button Controllers can be connected to a console at the same time. Before you can use a Big Button Controller, you must plug the infrared receiver cable into an open controller port on your Xbox 360 console. Then, position the receiver so that Big Button Controller users have a clear line-of-sight path to the receiver. To disconnect all Big Button Controllers, remove the infrared receiver cable from the console. Each of the four big button controllers has a unique color that corresponds to the same color screen character. They are automatically configured in the following preset sequence:

  • The first player's controller is green.
  • The second player's controller is red.
  • The third player's controller is blue.
  • The fourth player's controller is yellow.

Turn on your console and your controller

To turn on your console and your Big Button Controller, point the controller at the infrared receiver, and then press and hold the Xbox Guide button or the Start button. The receiver will connect to each Big Button Controller that the receiver detects.

Turn off your console and your controller

To turn off your console and all connected controllers, point the Big Button Controller at the infrared receiver, and then press and hold the Xbox Guide button for three seconds.

Notes:

  • Your Big Button Controller will continue to work the next time that you turn on the console as long as the infrared receiver cable is still connected.
  • The Big Button Controller only works within 25 feet of the console. Objects that block the clear line-of-sight path between the controller and the infrared receiver interfere with the controller's normal operation.

Using your controller

Controller buttons

The big button also works as a directional pad. Use this button and the A, B, X, Y, Back, Xbox Guide, and Start buttons to move around and control the Xbox Dashboard, exactly as you would with your wired or wireless controller.

Wired and wireless controllers

The Big Button controller does not interfere with the existing connections of wired controllers or other wireless Xbox 360 controllers. You can even use connected wired or wireless controllers together with Big Button Controllers for team gameplay.

For example, if you have a wireless controller assigned to quadrant 1 in the ring of light, both the wireless controller and the green Big Button Controller affect the green player in the game. Similarly, the second wired or wireless controller corresponds to red, the third corresponds to blue, and the fourth corresponds to yellow.

Cleaning your controller

Clean only by using a dry cloth or a slightly damp cloth. Using cleaning solutions or trying to clean connectors may damage your controller.
