SYMPTOMS

After you enable non-Trusted Platform Module (TPM) BitLocker on a Windows Server 2008-based computer that has the local computer policy set to "Allow BitLocker without a compatible TPM," the following event is logged in the System log every time that a user logs on to the computer: Log Name: System
Source: BitLocker-Driver
Event ID: 24629
Level: Error
OpCode: Info
Description: The system firmware failed to enable overwriting of system memory on restart. BitLocker TPM based keys cannot be used until the firmware is upgraded.


RESOLUTION

You do not have to do anything to resolve this problem. You can safely ignore the event that is logged.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
