SYMPTOMS

After you apply the security update MS07-040 on a Microsoft Exchange 2003 SP2-based front-end server that is monitored by the Microsoft Exchange 2003 Management Pack for Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005, the MOM server reports the following error:

Type: Error Description: OWA Logon failed. URL: https://publicurl/servernameMOM Error: RequestCanceled Descripton: System.Net.WebException: The request was aborted: The request was canceled. ---> System.NotSupportedException: This method is not supported by this class. at System.Net.BasicClient.EncodingRightGetBytes(String rawString) at System.Net.BasicClient.Lookup(HttpWebRequest httpWebRequest, ICredentials credentials) at System.Net.BasicClient.Authenticate(String challenge, WebRequest webRequest, ICredentials credentials) at System.Net.AuthenticationManager.Authenticate(String challenge, WebRequest request, ICredentials credentials) at System.Net.AuthenticationState.AttemptAuthenticate(HttpWebRequest httpWebRequest, ICredentials authInfo) at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.CheckResubmitForAuth() at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.CheckResubmit(Exception& e) at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.DoSubmitRequestProcessing(Exception& exception) at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.ProcessResponse() at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.SetResponse(CoreResponseData coreResponseData) --- End of inner exception stack trace --- at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetResponse() at Microsoft.Exchange.ManagementPack.ManagementPackOwa.OwaAvailability.GetPage(String url, NetworkCredential credential, CookieCollection cookies, HttpStatusCode& httpStatus, WebExceptionStatus& webexStatus) This event was generated by the script: "*SGI Exchange 2003 - OWA logon verification" Source: Exchange MOM Category: Event Number: 20003 Provider Type: Generic Provider Provider Name: Script-generated Data Raises Alert: True

However, users can still connect to OWA.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the MS07-040 security update changes character processing. These changes to character processing can cause OWA availability test failure.
