APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft HealthVault Connection Center

SYMPTOMS

Microsoft HealthVault Connection Center may upload duplicate health data entries to your HealthVault account.

CAUSE

HealthVault Connection Center allows for certain methods to be used to upload duplicate data entries to an individual HealthVault account if you want to do this. This issue may occur if you upload information to the HealthVault account by using one of the following methods:

Method 1

You click Upload this item to HealthVault many times to upload data to the HealthVault account. For example, the following steps upload data multiple times to a HealthVault account:

  1. Open HealthVault Connection Center.
  2. Under Tasks, click Go to Imported Data.
  3. Click one or more individual data records, and then click Upload this item to HealthVault under Tasks.
  4. Repeat step 3.

Method 2

You delete the data entries from HealthVault Connection Center, and then you upload the same data entries from the data device.

Method 3

You upload the same device data entries from two different computers. Your HealthVault account does not check for duplicate data entries when you upload data. If you upload data by using HealthVault Connection Center on one computer, and you then upload the same data by using HealthVault Connection Center on a second computer, duplicate data entries will be uploaded.

Method 4

You upload data from HealthVault Connection Center, and you then revoke HealthVault Connection Center's access to your HealthVault account. To revoke HealthVault Connection Center's access to your account, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to your HealthVault Account.
  2. Click the Health Details page.
  3. Click the Programs tab.
  4. Click HealthVault Connection Center.
  5. Click Remove Access.

You can create duplicate entries if the following conditions are true:

  • You re-enable HealthVault Connection Center's access to your HealthVault account.
  • To re-enable access, you upload the same data to your HealthVault account, and you approve access.

This behavior results from the platform obfuscation of Record IDs. When an application is authorized to access a record (This authorization must reoccur, regardless of whether the application was previously authorized to access a record.), a new Record ID is created. This is a security feature that prevents the Record ID from becoming a well-known global identifier for a health record.

RESOLUTION

When you create duplicate data entries that you do not want, you must manually delete the duplicate data entries individually from the Health Record in your HealthVault account.

To manually delete entries from your HealthVault account, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to your HealthVault Account.
  2. Click the Health Details page.
  3. Click the Health Info tab.
  4. Click to select the type of health information that you want to review.
  5. Click to select the data entry that you want to delete, and then click Delete.
  6. Confirm the deletion.

In order to prevent this issue, use one of the following resolutions, as appropriate for your situation.

Resolution 1

To resolve the issue that is mentioned in "Method 1" in the "Cause" section, do not upload individual data entry items to HealthVault. Instead, click the Upload all items to HealthVault option. When you click this option, HealthVault Connection Center examines the data entries to determine which data entries have already been uploaded to your HealthVault Account. In this scenario, HealthVault Connection Center does not upload duplicate data entries.

Resolution 2

To resolve the issues that are mentioned in "Method 2" and in "Method 3" in the "Cause" section, delete the imported data from the device after you import the data. To do this, click to select the Erase imported data from device after importing check box when you upload data from the device.

Note Contact the device manufacturer to determine how to remove data from the device. Do this if the data is not removed after the upload operation when you click to select the Erase imported data from device after importing check box.
