SYMPTOMS

On a computer that has Windows Internet Explorer 7 installed, you run the Internet Explorer Customization Wizard. You use this wizard to create an Internet Explorer 7 customized package. In the wizard, you remove the default elements of the following features:

  • Favorites
  • Feeds
  • Links


Note The Internet Explorer Customization Wizard is a component of the Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK).

You build the customized package, and you install the package on a destination computer. However, the default elements of the features that you removed still exist.

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, it is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next service pack that contains this hotfix.

To enable this hotfix, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start[GRAPHIC: Start button ], type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit in the Programs list.

    [GRAPHIC: User Account Control permission ] If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
  2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl

  3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key.
  4. Type the following name, and then press ENTER:

    FEATURE_BRANDING_DISABLE_DEFAULT_FEEDS_KB941938

  5. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
  6. Type the asterisk symbol ( *), and then press ENTER.
  7. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
  8. Type 1, and then click OK.
  9. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key
  10. Type the following name, and then press ENTER:

    FEATURE_BRANDING_DISABLE_DEFAULT_FAVORITES_KB941938

  11. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
  12. Type the asterisk symbol ( *), and then press ENTER.
  13. On the Edit menu, click Modify.

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time item in Control Panel.
